📖 1 min readThe Originator is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One who brings creatures forth according to His determination.
To pronounce the name The Originator in Arabic, we say: Al-Bari'.
It is written in Arabic: البارئ.
From the Arabic root ب-ر-أ (b-r-ʾ, to originate free of fault), بَارِئ (bari') is the active participle فَاعِل, the one who brings beings forth distinctly.
The Name “The Originator” means: The One who brings creatures forth according to His determination. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to contemplate the wisdom of creation, respect every creature, and use one's abilities for good. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
