📖 1 min readThe Praiseworthy is one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah. Its meaning: The One worthy of all praise for His essence, attributes, and acts.
To pronounce the name The Praiseworthy in Arabic, we say: Al-Hamid.
It is written in Arabic: الحميد.
From the Arabic root ح-م-د (h-m-d, praise), on the pattern فَعِيل (fa'il), it denotes the one inherently worthy of every form of praise.
The Name “The Praiseworthy” means: The One worthy of all praise for His essence, attributes, and acts. It affirms a perfection belonging to Allah without defect, limit, or resemblance to creation. In al-Ghazali’s perspective, the believer never claims to share the divine attribute in its reality; instead, the Name gives an orientation suited to the condition of a servant.
Meditating on this Name calls the believer to grow in reverence and humility, never ascribing to creation what belongs only to the Creator. Knowledge of the Name thereby becomes worship, refinement of character, and trust in Allah alone.
