The link between the 7 readings and the 7 ahruf

As for the link of the seven readings with the seven ahruf mentioned in the hadith, it must be known that the seven ahruf were revealed at the beginning to make things easy for the ummah, then most of them were abrogated by the final presentation, which led the caliph 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to write the mushafs he sent to the provinces, and to burn everything that departed from them.

The matter is therefore not what some people imagine, namely that the seven readings would be the seven ahruf.

The truth is that the readings of the seven imams, indeed of the ten, by which people recite today, are part of the seven ahruf with which the Noble Quran was revealed and with which the hadith came. All these ten readings agree with the script of one of the Uthmani mushafs that the caliph 'Uthman sent to the provinces, after the Companions agreed upon it and upon the rejection of everything that contradicts it ¹.

That said, the discussion here is not a discussion of development and detailed exposition. What is intended is a brief overview of this science: whoever needs more, let him refer to the books of the readings.
