The status of prayer and the one who abandons it

Islamic Fiqh > Prayer > Prayer: status, times and making up > The status of prayer and the one who abandons it

Updated on 06 October 2026 at 10:50 PM

This first part of the general principles on prayer covers the establishment of its obligation, the status of the one who abandons it, and then the legal times of the 5 prayers, one by one. The positions of the 4 schools (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali) are reported with their Quranic and prophetic proofs, their takhrij and their classical references. The order follows the encyclopedia: foundations of the obligation, the case of abandoning prayer, then the beginning and end of each prayer's time and its preferred time.
