Supererogatory prayers (tatawwu) are all the prayers performed in addition to the 5 obligatory prayers. This first part covers the rawatib sunnahs and the degree to which they are confirmed, the legal differences between voluntary and obligatory prayer, the recommended and disliked times for voluntary prayers, and then the rules for making up missed sunnahs and prayers missed during prohibited times. Every opinion is attributed to the school that holds it (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali), together with its evidence, hadiths and classical references.
