📖 1 min readIn the place, in the forms 'akafan and 'ukufan: to dwell in it and keep to it. One says: 'akafa in the mosque: to dwell in it with the intention of worship. To devote oneself to a thing: to turn to it, keep to it and not turn away from it. In the Quran: [al-A'raf, 138: 'And We made the children of Israel cross the sea, and they came upon a people devoted to their idols. They said: O Musa, make for us a god as they have gods. He said: you are an ignorant people.']. To confine such a one to a thing ('akkafa 'alayha): to shut him up to it. To withhold such a one from his need: to prevent him from it.
