Ala according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

Ila': he swore an oath. One says: ala 'alayhi; and from it (the term). In the noble Quran: (For those who swear away from their wives is a waiting of four months; if they revert, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful) (Al-Baqara: 226).
