Definition Alajl

Alajl according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

The deferred. With the Hanbalis: what has a term after which it becomes permissible. Ajal (with sukun): a reply like na'am in measure and meaning; al-Akhfash said it is better than na'am in affirmation, and na'am better than it in interrogation. Al-ajal: a thing's term (plural ajal); the time fixed for a thing's ending or coming; one says: I set him a term; in the Qur'an: 'whichever of the two terms you fulfill, no injustice shall be done me' (al-Qasas, 28). Death; one says his term came, when his death nears; in the Qur'an: 'when their term comes they shall neither delay it an hour nor advance it' (al-A'raf, 34). The punishment and penalty; in the Qur'an: 'God's term, when it comes, cannot be deferred, did you know' (Nuh, 4), that is, His punishment. Women's waiting period after divorce; in the Qur'an: 'when you divorce women and they reach their term (ajalahunna)' (al-Baqara, 231).
