Definition Al-arbʿaʾ

Al-arbʿaʾ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

It is said: 'al-rabi'' is the small stream, and its plural is 'al-arba''; from it comes the hadith: 'they irrigated the land with what grows upon the small streams (al-arba')' [narrated by al-Bukhari in 'al-Shurut' (7)]. 'Al-arba'' is the known day of the week between Tuesday and Thursday. [Talabat al-talaba p. 308]. 'Al-aratt': with the hamza opened and the ta' doubled; the author of 'al-Shamil' said: he is the one whose tongue has a 'ratta', merging one letter into another without articulating the letters clearly.

Al-arbʿaʾ according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

Among the days, it is the fourth day counting from Sunday, which is the first of the week.

Al-arbʿaʾ according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

A known day; in the hadith: 'they irrigated the land with what grows on the small streams', that is, with something known, thus in 'al-Majma''.
