📖 1 min readAl-ma'adha and at-ta'widh: the amulet; the ruqya (protective incantation) by which a person is treated for madness or fright. 'He 'awwadha-hu bi-llah (took refuge in God with him)': He fortified him by Himself and His names. 'A 'awdha (amulet) was hung upon him.' The two mu'awwidhatan in the Qur'an: sura al-Falaq and sura an-Nas, for they are the two refuges of their reciter from every evil; 'he 'adha bi-llah (sought refuge in God)': he fled to Him.
