📖 1 min readA dwelling among the Arabs' dwellings, rounded: it is a house made of wool or cotton, raised on poles and stretched with ropes. 'They khayyamu': they made a tent or entered the tent; 'they camped at a place': they stayed there; 'he tented (takhayyama) at a place': he pitched his tent there. Al-khaym: poles set up in the heat with crosspieces attached and shaded with foliage, being cooler than the akhibba; it has been said it is the tent; plural khim, khiyam, khuyum. Khayma may be applied to the dwelling; as for the tents mentioned in the Qur'an, God knows their true nature; He said: 'chaste, restrained in tents (al-kiyam).'
