Linguistic definition: a reciprocal term derived from innocence, signifying a mutual release from both sides. Terminological definition: it is considered one of the formulas of khul'. When it occurs between spouses, it necessitates the forfeiture of each other's rights regarding the marriage, subject to specific details. It is often used when the wife relinquishes her rights towards the husband in exchange for divorce, as detailed in the chapters on divorce and khul'.
Verbal noun. According to the Hanafis: it is when a man says to his wife: I am absolved from your marriage contract for such an amount, and she accepts it. The barjouma: the apparent or hidden knuckle of the fingers. Plural: barajim. In the noble hadith: Ten are from the fitra: trimming the mustache, letting the beard grow, using the siwak, sniffing water into the nose, clipping the nails, washing the knuckles, plucking the armpit hairs, shaving the pubic hair, and cleaning with water, meaning istinja. Mus'ab, one of the narrators of the hadith, said: And I forgot the tenth, unless it is rinsing the mouth. This indicates that washing the knuckles is an independent sunna and is not restricted to ablution.
