Among the meanings of al-mukhafata in language: lowering the voice. In technical usage: they differed over the condition of the recitation's existence on three views; the first is the condition of al-Hadawani and al-Fadli of the Hanafis for its existence: that a sound issue reaching his ear; with this ash-Shafi'i also held.
