Al-tbʿyḍ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

In language: division into parts; it is the verbal noun of 'he divided the thing' (ba''ada) ta'bi'dan, meaning making it into ba'd (portions): distinct parts; 'the ba'd of a thing' is its part, a portion of it whether small or many; hence 'they took his property and divided it up': they separated it into parts. (Al-Mufradat fi gharib al-Qur'an, p. 54-55; al-Misbah al-Munir, root ba'd, p. 21; al-Mawsu'a al-fiqhiyya 10/75.)
