Al-wṭʾ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

- With fatha on the waw and sukun on the unpointed ta' - From 'he trod upon the thing' (wata'a), meaning pressing it with the foot; in the Qur'an: 'let them not tread upon a place that would vex the disbelievers.'

Al-wṭʾ according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

It is intercourse, that is, carnal contact, from 'he trod upon the woman' (wati'a) when he has intercourse with her; it is inverted from the hamzated form.
