📖 2 min readAsra the night: to travel by night (sara bihi): that is the view of most scholars. Al-Hawfi said: asra: to travel by night; sara: to travel by day. It has been said: asra: to travel from the beginning of the night; sara: from its end. Asra with someone, or someone with another: to travel by night with him. In the Noble Quran: 'Glory to Him who took His servant by night (asra) from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed He is the Hearing, the Seeing' (Al-Isra', 1). His word 'by night' is an adverb of the isra, for emphasis; its benefit is to remove the notion of the figurative sense, since the word may also apply to travel by day. It has been said: rather it indicates that this took place during part of the night, not all of it. Tasarra: to go out in secret. Tasarra the thing: to select it. At-tasarri: the verbal noun of tasarra; acquiring intercourse and seeking it. In terminology: the master's taking of one of his slave women in marriage (Atfayyish).
