Definition Azr

Azr according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

Such a one, in the form 'azzara: to censure him. To punish him with a penalty less than the hadd. To aid him. To refrain from a thing: to prevent it and push it back. Upon the obligations of the religion: to acquaint him with them and keep him steadfast upon them. Such a one: to prevent and repel him. To honour and venerate him. In the Quran: [al-Fath, 9: 'That you may believe in Allah and His Messenger, and support him and revere him.']. To assist and strengthen him, to aid him. To edify him. To punish him with a penalty less than the legal hadd. Upon the obligations of the religion and its rulings: to establish him in their observance. Al-ta'zir: veneration. Humiliation. Prevention and repulsion. Flogging below the hadd. According to the Law: the corrective punishment below the hadd; its maximum is 39 lashes and its minimum 3. (al-Tamartashi). According to the Law: the punishment of a sin for which there is neither hadd nor, as a rule, expiation. (al-Ansari). Among the Ja'fariyya: one of the fixed punishments of Allah the Most High.
