Definition Ibn as-sabil

Ibn as-sabil according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

It is the traveler; the way the road; the traveler named way-son for his continuity with it, as the child continual with mother; as said of the affairs-knower: their-son; and world’s sons: the refined occupied thereby; so-and-so generosity’s son and nobility’s: generous, noble, as said: generosity’s brother and nursling, all for his deed-persisting and striving. Terminology: the stranger cut from wealth, so in al-Bada’i’; he undertaking a journey from the zakat-land or passing it.

Ibn as-sabil according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

Detainer undertaking a lawful journey, or passing.

The traveler far from his lodging holding wealth with him.

Ibn as-sabil according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

The traveler cut from journeying, wanting returning his land finding not what reaches it; in the glorious Book: « alms but for the poor, needy, service-agents, hearts rallied, slaves, indebted, Allah’s path, way-son: Allah’s prescription, Allah Omniscient, Wise » (at-Tawba 60). Among jurists: the traveler obeying whose provisions fail, finding nothing spending, said Ibn Rouchd. Among the Shafi’ites: he wanting traveling his residence-land, unable reaching his aim sans aid. Among the Ja’farites: the guest. Among the Ibadites: he cut from his folk, given his return’s measure, though well-off his land.

Ibn as-sabil according to Mu'jam Lughat al-Fuqaha

The traveler whose expenses exhausted outside his land. Wayfare, traveller. The two ways: urine and excrement’s outlets. (The urinary canal facing.) Urethra.
