Definition Kashf

Kashf according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

Lexically: lifting the veil. As a term: the survey of what is behind the veil of unseen meanings and true matters, by existence and witnessing.

Kashf according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Lexically: lifting the veil. As a term: the survey of what lies behind the veil of lofty meanings and hidden things, by existence and witnessing.

Kashf according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

Lexically: « he unveiled the thing » raised what covered it; hence « Allah lifted his grief » meaning removed it, and the woman uncovered, exaggerating display of her charms; kachf is wider than nakedness; hence « lifting the veil ». As a term: survey of what is behind the veil of unseen meanings and true matters by existence and witnessing. Al-kachk: the well-known made of wheat and milk, seen by me in no tongue book nor al-Mou’arrab: crushing wheat or barley till clean of husk, then kneading and boiling in the churn till it ferments and thickens, that is, dries, mentioned in Mojmal al-Lougha.

Kashf according to An-Nihaya (Ibn al-Athir)

Plural akchaf: he with whom none is sent, as if uncovered, not concealed.
