Definition Lams

Lams according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

The thing, in the forms mula masa and lama san: to touch it. The woman: to consort with her. In the Quran: [an-Nisa, 43: 'Or if you are sick, or on a journey, or if one of you comes from the privy, or if you have touched women, and you find no water, then take clean earth and wipe your faces and your hands.']. What is intended by it in the verse is intercourse: the view of Ibn Abbas, Ali, Ubayy and a transmission from Umar. Ibn Mas'ud said: what is intended is touching with the hand and the rest of the limbs: the view of Ibn Umar and a transmission from Umar. Al-mula masa: verbal noun.
