In the mighty Book: [al-Ahzab, 33: 'Allah only desires to remove from you impurity, O people of the house, and to purify you with a thorough purification.']. The newborn: circumcision. Al-tahir: the one free of defects. (plural) athhar. Of water: that with which purification is permissible. Of women: the one free of menses and the like. One says: tahira. (plural) tawahhir. By consensus: the thing upon which there is neither tangible impurity nor legal impurity. (al-Shawkani). In the saying of al-Jurjani: the one whom Allah the Most High preserves from acts of disobedience.
