Main themes of the surah في سورة Al-Masad
جهنم بما كانت تمشي به وتبالغ فيه من حمل حطب البهت والنميمة ا...
Jahannam (Hellfire) was what she used to walk with and exaggerate in carrying the firewood of slander and gossip that she carried to oppose the Prophet, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, and to severely harm and ignite the fire of war and hostility against him, may God's peace and blessings be upon him. As the poet said: 'From the white (women), she did not hunt on the back of her mother... and did not walk among the tribe with wet firewood,' intending gossip and using 'wet' to indicate the increase of evil due to its smoke. Gossip was likened to firewood because it ignites evil, causing discord among people, just as firewood is fuel for fire, dispersing it. Also, due to what she used to carry from thorns and scatter them at night on the path of the Prophet, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, to harm him. She used to do it herself due to the intensity of her enmity and would sneak out at night to hide it because she was noble. When the Surah was revealed, it depicted her in the ugliest image, which was the greatest shame for her. The recitation of 'Asim with nasb (indicating separation) for the cutting off of the insult implies that 'his wife' is the subject, and the news {in her hand} means on her neck, and the best of what is in it - is a condition based on the first assumption {a rope} like that of the woodcutters, belittling her affair and degrading her situation {of palm fiber}, meaning a rope or the fiber of a rope that has been twisted and tightly twisted, as in the saying: 'A man with twisted character,' meaning well-arranged. The end of it has returned to its beginning, for the one whose wife is depicted as a woodcutter with a bundle of firewood on her back, suspended.
