📖 2 min readIs it because of the vile mountains you have {beh}, specifically, that you deny, in relation to which your denial of everything else is due to its vileness and your deep-rootedness in it and your persistence in it? {You deny}, meaning you anticipate denial by it and you renew it, continuing in it.
And since this is the case, they may understand that they see all their punishment at that time, He negated it by saying: {kala} meaning it is not the entirety, but rather an individual of the species, for this reason, the species is applied to it, which is their descent. The matter is more vast and greater than can be encompassed by description. And when He mentioned the punishment that the deniers have brought upon themselves due to their inclination towards the worldly life, beginning with it, because the context from the beginning of the surah is about warning and the treasures of threats, He followed it with what the affirmers have, who are inclined towards happiness, leaving behind opportunities and turning away from the immediate desires of the worldly life. So, He said, affirming due to their denial: {Inna kitaba al-abrar} meaning the scroll of the righteous, those who are at the utmost level of expansiveness in the breadth of their chests, the expansiveness of their intellects, the abundance of their deeds, and their purity, and other such excellent matters. {La fi iliyyin} meaning in elevated places, attributed to loftiness, the attribution first being to the verb 'aliya, then it was made plural, even though it does not have a singular form from its own word, like 'ishrin and its sisters. Al-Kasai said: When the Arabs pluralize something that they do not reduce to a singular, they pluralize it with the letters waaw and noon in both the masculine and feminine forms. Thus, they are ascending levels that rise to Allah and are not veiled.
And the precious thing is that which people are eager for and strive to attain. The competition in such a matter is through the abundance of righteous deeds and pure intentions. And when He mentioned the drink, He followed it with its mixture, in accordance with what the people of the world are familiar with, but with something more noble than it. So He said, explaining the state of this drink: {and its mixture} meaning they drink from it, and the fact is that the mixture of this wine {is from Tasneem}, which is a name for a specific spring, and it is - while being a name - an indication that it is of a high and noble rank. The drink descends upon them from its heights, and Hamza al-Kirmani said: its water flows through the air, pouring into the vessels of the people of Paradise according to their needs, so when they are full, it stops. It is also a name for a high mountain in poetry, and so is at-Tan'eem, and its origin is from as-Sanam. That's why He mentioned it in praise, saying: {a spring from which} because of it, in the manner of its mixture {those brought near} will drink, meaning those whose nearness occurred due to the Truth drawing them to Himself and their aspirations being limited to Him. Every drink they desire, and as for the righteous, they only drink from it the wine, and as for others, they do not reach it at all. And some said: the brought near ones drink from this spring purely, and the righteous have it mixed for them, and the difference is clear - a delight for them. And when He mentioned the reward of the disbeliever with Hell and the reward of the believer with Paradise,
And when He described them in instances of wavering and fluctuation, He described them in their homes, saying: {وإذا انقلبوا} meaning, when those who had committed crimes returned to their homes with a desire to return and approach them without being forced {إلى أهلهم} meaning, to their homes which are inhabited

Woe to those who give less [than due],
Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.
But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.
Do they not think that they will be resurrected
For a tremendous Day -
The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?
No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.
And what can make you know what is sijjeen?
It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed.
Woe, that Day, to the deniers,
Who deny the Day of Recompense.
And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."
No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.
No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.
Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.
Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny."
No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun.
And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun?
It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed
Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah].
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure
On adorned couches, observing.
You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.
They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.
The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.
And its mixture is of Tasneem,
A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink.
Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.
And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.
And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."
But they had not been sent as guardians over them.
So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,
On adorned couches, observing.
Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?
