📖 1 min readIt is the lam found in a particle (harf), and that in "hal" and "bal" only, which do not occur elsewhere in the Quran.
The ruling of "bal": obligatory izhaar, as in: بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ, unless a lam or a ra follows it: then idghaam into the lam by identity, as in: بَلْ لَمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ, and into the ra by closeness, as in: بَلْ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ; and excepted from this: بَلْ رَانَ, because of the obligatory sakt upon it, and the sakt prevents idghaam.
As for the ruling of "hal": the izhaar of its lam is obligatory at all times, as in: هَلْ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَا, unless a lam follows it: then idghaam by identity, as in: فَقُلْ هَلْ لَكَ إِلَى أَنْ تَزَكَّى; as for the presence of the ra after it, it does not occur in the Quran.

Surah 85, 17: The lam of هل remains apparent at all times (permanent izhaar of the harf, cited by the book).
