Alhj alakbr according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

It is the pilgrimage preceded by the standing at 'Arafat; in the Qur'an: 'and an announcement from God and His messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage (al-hajj al-akbar): that God disavows the polytheists, and so does His messenger' (at-Tawba, 3). The day of al-hajj al-akbar is the day of sacrifice (an-nahr); it has been said: the day of 'Arafat.
