Definition Al-taʿfiyr

Al-taʿfiyr according to An-Nihaya (Ibn al-Athir)

When they harvested the palm's dates, they left it forty days without watering it, so that its load would dry, then they watered it; then it was left until it thirsted, then watered. ''Affara l-qawm': when they did that; it derives from 'ta'fir' of the wild beast and her young, which is to wean her a few days during suckling and then put her back to the breast, doing so repeatedly that she become accustomed.

Al-taʿfiyr according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

The intensified form of 'al-'ifr': rubbing the vessel or the like with 'ifr' (earth), that is, earth whose whiteness is not pure; this concerns the heavy impurity. [al-Tawqif pp. 187-188].
