Al-wqdh according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

The violence of blows. A sheep 'waqid': struck dead; a woman 'maqwuadha': killed with wood. Al-Azhari said: al-waqdh is killing her with something that carries no hadd (fixed penalty) for killing, such as a stone, a thick staff, or the like, and anything heavy: 'he waqadh you (struck you)'. The maqwuadha in the Qur'an: the one killed by that which has no cutting edge (dhikat). (Al-Qamus al-Muhit, p. 433; az-Zahir, p. 160.)

Al-wqdh according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

Someone 'waqdan': striking him until he goes limp and nears death, he being maqwuad; 'he waqadh drowsiness against someone': he brought it down upon him. Al-maqwuad: the one whose illness is severe and who is on the verge of death.
