The way. One says: 'I followed the aslub of so-and-so in such a matter': his manner, his doctrine; plural: asalib. The category (fann). 'Al-salib': the one who snatches (yaslab). Among the Ibadis: one who mixes with a man, for instance, and when he sees him heedless, snatches from his hand, or from before him, or from those present with him, and flees. 'Al-silab': the mourning garment; it is said to be a black garment with which a woman covers her head. 'Al-salab': what is seized. In the noble hadith: 'Whoever kills a slain person regarding whom he has proof has the right to his salab (spoil)'; plural: aslab. 'From the slaughtered animal': its hide, its akar' (feet and emptied innards), its belly. Among the Malikis: whatever is taken from the slain. Among the Hanafis: what was with the slain: his mount, his weapon, his clothes, gold and silver in his pouch or on his person, a ring, a bracelet, a belt. Among the Shafi'is, the Hanbalis, al-Awza'i and Mak-hul: what was with the slain: his mount, his weapon, what he wore of clothes and belt, a coat of mail, a bracelet, jewelry. Among the Zahiris: the slain man's horse, his saddle and bridle, his weapons and property, his clothes and jewelry. 'Al-salib': the seized; one says 'a man bereft of reason (salib al-aql)'; plurals: salb and salabi. 'Al-salt': a kind of huskless barley resembling wheat, found in the Gur and the Hijaz.
