Definition Asthya

Asthya according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

Istahya: to abstain and turn away. In the Noble Quran: 'Allah is not ashamed to set forth an example: a gnat or what is above it. Those who believe know that it is the truth from their Lord; as for those who disbelieve, they say: what did Allah intend by this example?' (Al-Baqarah, 26). Istahya the captive: to leave him alive without killing him; hence the word of Allah, glorified be He: 'They slew your sons and let your women live (yastahyuna)' (Al-Baqarah, 49), that is: they kept them alive for service. Istahya someone regarding another: to feel shame before him; one says: istahya of him, istahahu, istahya of him. In the Noble Revelation: 'Indeed it annoys the Prophet that you do so: he is ashamed to dismiss you (yastahyi minkum), but Allah is not ashamed of the truth' (Al-Ahzab, 53). Al-Akhfash said: istahya with one ya is the speech of Tamim, and with two yas that of the people of the Hijaz, and that is the original form.
