📖 2 min readPartnership in a debt (shirkah al-dayn). In the Mejelle (article 1068): sharing in an amount of debt, such as two persons sharing an amount of so many qirsh in a person's debt. Ad-din: that by which a person practices his religion; a name for everything by which Allah is worshipped; the way (millah), hence the word of Allah, the Most High: 'that is the religion of uprightness' (Al-Bayyinah, 5), that is: the straight way; Islam. In the Noble Quran: 'Do they seek a religion other than the religion of Allah, while to Him submits whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and to Him they will be returned?' (Al 'Imran, 83), that is, Islam; belief of the heart, confession of the tongue and action of the limbs upon the pillars; piety (wara'); judgment (qada'); ruling (hukm). In the Noble Revelation: '... in the religion of Allah' (An-Nur, 2), that is: in Allah's ruling; requital and recompense; obedience; conduct (sirah); custom; sovereignty. In the sense of the legal rulings, according to the Ibadis: a divine institution that guides, by the praiseworthy choice of people of understanding, to what is good for them in itself, and embraces the root and the branch.
