Definition Sra

Sra according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

The night: 'sariyyan, sarayatan, sara': he passed, went on; in the Qur'an: 'by the night as it passes (yasri)' (al-Fajr, 3). The night; with it: crossing it by travel. A tree's root-flow in the earth 'sariyyan, sarayatan': it crept beneath it; it is also said poison and wine 'crept (sara) into it'. A wound reaching the vital organ (an-nafs): its pain persisted until death resulted. 'He traveled by night (sara laylan)': when part of the night passed; 'sara laylata': when the whole night passed. 'Asra laylan' is said only if the travel occurred during the night; in the Qur'an: 'travel with My servants by night (f'asri bi-'ibadi laylan), you are being pursued' (ad-Dukhan, 23), that is, in mid-night.
