بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Verse 1 - Surah Al-Maa'un: 4 words

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ

Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?

أَرَءَيْتَ ara-ayta Have you seen

ٱلَّذِى alladhī the one who

يُكَذِّبُ yukadhibu denies

بِٱلدِّينِ bil-dīni the Judgment

Verse 2 - Surah Al-Maa'un: 4 words

فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلْيَتِيمَ

For that is the one who drives away the orphan

فَذَٰلِكَ fadhālika Then that

ٱلَّذِى alladhī (is) the one who

يَدُعُّ yaduʿʿu repulses

ٱلْيَتِيمَ l-yatīma the orphan

Verse 3 - Surah Al-Maa'un: 5 words

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ

And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.

وَلَا walā And (does) not

يَحُضُّ yaḥuḍḍu feel the urge

عَلَىٰ ʿalā to

طَعَامِ ṭaʿāmi feed

ٱلْمِسْكِينِ l-mis'kīni the poor

Verse 4 - Surah Al-Maa'un: 2 words

فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ

So woe to those who pray

فَوَيْلٌۭ fawaylun So woe

لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ lil'muṣallīna to those who pray

Verse 5 - Surah Al-Maa'un: 5 words

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ

[But] who are heedless of their prayer -

ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna Those who

هُمْ hum [they]

عَن ʿan about

صَلَاتِهِمْ ṣalātihim their prayers

سَاهُونَ sāhūna (are) neglectful

Verse 6 - Surah Al-Maa'un: 3 words

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ

Those who make show [of their deeds]

ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna Those who

هُمْ hum [they]

يُرَآءُونَ yurāūna make show

Verse 7 - Surah Al-Maa'un: 2 words

وَيَمْنَعُونَ ٱلْمَاعُونَ

And withhold [simple] assistance.

وَيَمْنَعُونَ wayamnaʿūna And they deny

ٱلْمَاعُونَ l-māʿūna [the] small kindnesses
