📖 2 min readWith fatha of the mim, al-Jawhari said: and with kasra of the mim in dialect; it is a well-known place at Muzdalifa, also called 'Quzah'; it has already been said that al-Mash'ar al-Haram and Quzah are names of Muzdalifa, so that Muzdalifa as a whole is named 'al-Mash'ar al-Haram'. Quzah: a designation of the part by the name of the whole, as the whole place was named 'Badr', after a water there called 'Badr'. [al-Matla' p. 197, al-Tawqif p. 657].
The mountain called Quzah; it is among the shu'ur (places of vigil), and inwardly it is beyond perception, as al-Harali mentioned.
In Allah's saying, exalted be He: 'Then when you pour down from 'Arafat, remember Allah at al-Mash'ar al-Haram' (al-Baqara 198): it is all of Muzdalifa, and that is the view of the majority of exegetes, the people of hadith, the specialists of the Sira (al-Siyar), the Hanafis, the Hanbalis, and the Zahiris. 'A mountain at the end of Muzdalifa called Quzah': that is the view of the Shafi'is, and a view among the Hanafis. 'Al-sha'anin': a Christian festival falling on the Sunday before Easter, in which the carrying of the branch is celebrated, in memory of the Lord Christ's entry into Jerusalem; it is a borrowed word.
﴿لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَبْتَغُوا۟ فَضْلًۭا مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ ۚ فَإِذَآ أَفَضْتُم مِّنْ عَرَفَـٰتٍۢ فَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عِندَ ٱلْمَشْعَرِ ٱلْحَرَامِ ۖ وَٱذْكُرُوهُ كَمَا هَدَىٰكُمْ وَإِن كُنتُم مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ لَمِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ﴾
« There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord [during Hajj]. But when you depart from 'Arafat, remember Allah at al- Mash'ar al-Haram. And remember Him, as He has guided you, for indeed, you were before that among those astray. »
