📖 2 min readAl-mustrabah: she who has not yet menstruated although she is at the age of menstruation. Rana the garment: to become tarnished and soiled. Rana the filth: to become foul and turbid. Rana the thing upon someone, against him or with him: to overpower and cover him. In the Noble Quran: 'Nay! Rather, what they have earned has rusted upon their hearts' (Al-Mutaffifin, 14), that is: the matter is not as they claimed, nor as they said that this Quran was the tales of the ancients; rather it is the word of Allah, His revelation, sent down upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); and what veiled their hearts from faith in it is the rust (rayn) that covered their hearts through abundance of sins and faults. Rina because of him: to die; to fall into what he has no strength for, from which he cannot get out. Ar-ran: the cover, the thick veil; the rust that forms upon what is polished, such as the sword and the mirror and the like; what has settled upon the heart and overcome it with hardness, sin after sin; filth; a leather sock (khuff) stuffed with cotton, worn underneath against the cold. Al-Subki said: I have not seen it in the books of language; it may be a Persian word. Ar-rayn: ar-ran. Ar-raynah: wine.
