Definition Al-nṭq

Al-nṭq according to An-Nihaya (Ibn al-Athir)

Plural of nitaq: mountains lying in tiers, that is, flanks and middle parts; they were likened to the nitaq (belt) by which people's waists are bound; he made it a metaphor for his loftiness and his standing in the midst of his tribe, placing the others like the middle parts of mountains. His 'house' means his nobility; and 'al-muhaymin' his attribute: so that your nobility, witnessed, gathers your precedence at the highest place in the lineage of Khindif.

Al-nṭq according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

'To speak': the man natqa and mantiqan: he spoke; 'to make tongues speak': cause them to speak. To bind someone with the nitaq: gird his waist. Al-mantiq: speech. Al-mintaqa: a band of cloth worn by a woman, girding her waist, the upper part falling over the lower to the ground, the lower dragging on the ground; plural manatiq. Al-natiq: the speaking animal; the mumit: what is other. Al-nitaq: the mintaqa; plural nutuq. The girdle by which a woman binds her waist for work.

Al-nṭq according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

A masdar or noun; applied to the outer natiq, that is, the word, and to the inner, that is, the apprehension of universals; what is meant by natiq in their saying 'the speaking animal' is the faculty present in man's imagination that works upon meanings.
