Definition Bayt

Bayt according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

In the dwelling, if Allah wills.

Bayt according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

The place of passing the night in the specified dwelling of the particular home of the town, said al-Hourali. Ar-Raghib said: its root is man’s shelter by night; then said without regard to night; plural abyat and boyout, boyout more proper to dwelling, abyat to poetry: what holds known parts called parts of the metrical foot, so named by metaphor, the parts being joined in a special way as the house’s parts in its building. The place of a thing is expressed as its house. The House of Allah and the Ancient House: Mecca. The heart is the Lord’s house; the heart was named house in the hadith: « the angels enter not a house wherein is a dog or an image », hence: the house is the heart and the dog greed. The people of the house became a known term for the Prophet’s family.

Bayt according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

Name of a single roofed dwelling with vestibule, unlike khana, name of every dwelling small or great; the house is among buildings and among poetry, that is, it bears the houses of the madar of settled folk and the houses of hair and camel-hair of the dwellers of the wilds.

Bayt according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

He built it. Of the thing: wrought it by night. Of the matter: contrived it by night. Of his view: pondered it and concealed it. Of the people: fell upon them by night unawares.

Bayt in the Quran

« And [mention] when We made the House a place of return for the people and [a place of] security. And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, [saying], "Purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who are staying [there] for worship and those who bow and prostrate [in prayer]." »

Surah

« And [mention] when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ishmael, [saying], "Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing. »

Surah

« Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs 'umrah - there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good - then indeed, Allah is appreciative and Knowing. »

Surah

« Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Makkah - blessed and a guidance for the worlds. »

Surah

« In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it shall be safe. And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves - then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds. »

Surah

« And they say, "[We pledge] obedience." But when they leave you, a group of them spend the night determining to do other than what you say. But Allah records what they plan by night. So leave them alone and rely upon Allah. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs. »

Surah
