Mrd almwt according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

With the Hanafis: the illness death overcomes, even if the patient leaves the house; upon it the legal answer stands. Or: the illness disabling the man from managing his affairs outside the house and the woman from managing hers inside it. Or: that which clings to the patient until he nears death. Or: what usually causes death, worsening state by state until it is the final cause of death. Or: that to which death attaches and which lasts no more than a year. In the Mejelle (art. 1595): it is the illness in which death is feared in most cases; it disables the male patient from seeing to his affairs outside his dwelling and the female from seeing to the affairs inside her dwelling, and he dies in that state before a year passes, whether bedridden or not. If his illness persists unchanged for a year, he is deemed healthy and his acts count as those of the healthy, unless the illness worsens and his state changes; but if it worsens, his state changes, and he dies, his state from the time of the change to death counts as mortal illness. The bedridden one (sahib al-firash) is the one confined to bed. Al-mawta: death. Al-mayyit: he who parted from life, male or female alike; in the Qur'an: 'He it is who sends down water from the sky in due measure, by which We revive a dead land; thus shall you be brought forth' (az-Zukhruf, 11), that is, God, having sent down rain, revived the land; so shall the servant be brought out of his grave on the Day of Resurrection (plural amwat).
