بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Verse 1 - Surah Ash-Sharh: 4 words

أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ

Did We not expand for you, [O Muhammad], your breast?

أَلَمْ alam Have not

نَشْرَحْ nashraḥ We expanded

لَكَ laka for you

صَدْرَكَ ṣadraka your breast

Verse 2 - Surah Ash-Sharh: 3 words

وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ

And We removed from you your burden

وَوَضَعْنَا wawaḍaʿnā And We removed

عَنكَ ʿanka from you

وِزْرَكَ wiz'raka your burden

Verse 3 - Surah Ash-Sharh: 3 words

ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ

Which had weighed upon your back

ٱلَّذِىٓ alladhī Which

أَنقَضَ anqaḍa weighed upon

ظَهْرَكَ ẓahraka your back

Verse 4 - Surah Ash-Sharh: 3 words

وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ

And raised high for you your repute.

وَرَفَعْنَا warafaʿnā And We raised high

لَكَ laka for you

ذِكْرَكَ dhik'raka your reputation

Verse 5 - Surah Ash-Sharh: 4 words

فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

فَإِنَّ fa-inna So indeed

مَعَ maʿa with

ٱلْعُسْرِ l-ʿus'ri the hardship

يُسْرًا yus'ran (is) ease

Verse 6 - Surah Ash-Sharh: 4 words

إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًۭا

Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

إِنَّ inna Indeed

مَعَ maʿa with

ٱلْعُسْرِ l-ʿus'ri the hardship

يُسْرًۭا yus'ran (is) ease

Verse 7 - Surah Ash-Sharh: 3 words

فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَٱنصَبْ

So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship].

فَإِذَا fa-idhā So when

فَرَغْتَ faraghta you have finished

فَٱنصَبْ fa-inṣab then labor hard

Verse 8 - Surah Ash-Sharh: 3 words

وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَٱرْغَب

And to your Lord direct [your] longing.

وَإِلَىٰ wa-ilā And to

رَبِّكَ rabbika your Lord

فَٱرْغَب fa-ir'ghab turn your attention
