Main themes of the surah في سورة Al-Balad

And We will ease his mind, and sin is what is harbored in the breast and recurs in the heart, even if people and judges exonerate him. Since the meaning of what has been mentioned is that this human being is weak, even if his power reaches its peak, the statement of the Almighty precedes it: {And man was created weak} [An-Nisa: 28]. And it is known that all his affairs are exposed, in secret as they are in public, as indicated by the hadith of Jundub, may Allah be pleased with him, as reported by At-Tabarani: 'No servant conceals a secret except that Allah clothes him with it.' And the hadith of Abu Sa'id, may Allah be pleased with him, as reported by Ahmad and Abu Ya'la: 'If one of you acts in a barren rock with no door or window, his deeds will come out to the people.' Thus, he is connected to it and has power over it. And he must give thanks for the abilities that the Almighty has given him, which he uses for evil gain, and the cause of the Almighty's statement is to explain in detail the things that lead to comfort in the Hereafter, denying his action on the path of truth, indicating his weakness: {So let him not force his way} meaning, rush and throw himself hastily and forcefully, to the point of being driven by his intense love for what he sees in the good he has entered into, as if it came to him without thought or consideration, but rather impulsively {the steep pass}, which is the path of salvation, and it is established in language that it is the ascending road in the mountain, borrowing its name for acts of righteousness.

It indicates that whoever's disbelief is lighter is not stubborn, and thus is likely to be guided and become one of those on the right side. Since the meaning of this is that they are on the side of misfortune and perdition, far from all blessings, it led to the statement: {upon them} specifically, not others, {a fire confined} meaning a fire that has its doors closed upon them while surrounding them from all sides - implying, through the instrument of superiority, and with narrowness and ruggedness. This, by my life, is the most severe narrowness, distress, and hardship. The refuge from it is to Allah, the One, the Unique, the Eternal. It has been made known that its beginning is this end, so the resort to it is what the hands grasp and the fingers are clenched upon. Allah, the Exalted, is the One hoped for guidance to the best of intentions, and He is the Guide to what is right; to Him is the return and the refuge.

I swear by this city, Makkah -

And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city -

And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],

We have certainly created man into hardship.

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."

Does he think that no one has seen him?

Have We not made for him two eyes?

And a tongue and two lips?

And have shown him the two ways?

But he has not broken through the difficult pass.

And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?

It is the freeing of a slave

Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

An orphan of near relationship

Or a needy person in misery

And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.

Those are the companions of the right.

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.

Over them will be fire closed in.
