Aslam ar-Ra'i

D'ar: Aslam al-Ra'i, the black, was mentioned by Ibn Mandah. He was known as Abu Salma and was martyred in Khayber.

Abu Salam reported on the authority of Abu Salma al-Ra'i, from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: 'Bukh bukh (expression of encouragement), for five things that are heavy on the scale:'

Abu Nu'aym said: Abu Salma was a shepherd of the Prophet ﷺ. Some mistakenly claimed his name was Aslam, but his name was actually Harith. Another mistaken claim was that he was martyred in Khayber, which is another error. He mentioned the hadith reported by Ibn Mandah that the Prophet said: 'Bukh bukh, for five things that are heavy on the scale:'

No god but Allah, and Allah is the greatest, and glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and a righteous child who dies and his parents are accounted for.

Abu Nu'aym said: The martyr of Khayber did not narrate from Abu Salam; he says: 'I was told,' which if he said 'on the authority of Abu Salma,' it would be considered a mursal (disconnected) hadith.
