Biography of Aslam mawla Umar
d ': Aslam, the freed slave of 'Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, was from the captives of Yemen. Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq said: Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq sent 'Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb in 11 AH to lead the pilgrimage, and he purchased Aslam there. He said: Aslam met the Prophet but did not see him. He was from the Habashah. 'Abd al-Raḥmān ibn Zayd ibn Aslam reported on his father's authority that his father: Aslam traveled with the Prophet on two journeys.
'Abd al-Mun'im ibn Bashīr ibn 'Abd al-Raḥmān ibn Zayd ibn Aslam reported on his father's authority that his grandfather: traveled with the Prophet on two journeys. However, 'Abd al-Mun'im is not well-known.
Abū 'Ubayd al-Qāsim ibn Salam said: Aslam died in 80 AH. It was also said: he died at the age of 114, and Marwān ibn al-Ḥakam led the funeral prayer for him. This contradicts the first report, as Marwān died in 64 AH.
