Thabit ibn Mas'ud

B S: Thabit b. Masud said: Abu 'Umar said: Safwan b. Mahraz said: I was a companion of a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, I think he was Thabit b. Masud. I never saw a better neighbor than him, and he would mention good things. This is the word of Abu 'Umar.

And Abu Musa brought it out, confirming Ibn Mandah, and said: Thabit b. Masud.

He said: And 'Abdan said: I do not know of any hadith of his except that Safwan mentioned it for him, he said: And Abu 'Uthman Sa'id b. Ya'qub al-Sarraj brought it out in al-Afrad, and he mentioned what 'Abd Allah b. Mandah wrote about him.

He said: Our narrator Ahmad b. Yahya said: Our narrator al-Hajjaj said: Our narrator Hammad said: Thabit al-Banani said: I was praying behind the Maqam, and to my side was a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, I think he was Thabit b. Masud. I would lower my voice when he would recite loudly, and I never saw a better neighbor than him. When I would make a mistake, he would open up to me, and when I finished praying, I would enter the Tawaf, and he would catch up to me and take my hand, and he said: Souls are armies that are mobilized, and none of them agree, and none of them disagree. You are still on the right path as long as the soul guides you and leads you.

Abu Musa said: They brought it out like this, and it is strange that two men who were reliable would have this mistake, he said: And I think that the correct version is that he is Thabit, and he is the Banani who narrated it, that the man to his side was a Companion of the Prophet, Masud, so Masud: The verb 'nass' is used for the second object, and if it were not for that, he would have said: And to my side was a man I think was Thabit b. Masud, God knows best.
