Biography of Hakim ibn Umyah
Hukaym ibn Amiya ibn Haritha ibn al-Awqas al-Sulami pledged allegiance to the Banu Umayya, converted to Islam early in Mecca, and said to dissuade his people from their collective enmity towards the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, as they were prone to do, and he composed verses such as:
Except for the face of one who owns youth … and you have been abandoned as long as you are in dispute
And I have submitted my face to the God and my intellect … and if the truthful one had guided me
He was mentioned by Ibn Hisham, from Ibn Abi Ishaq. And it was transmitted from the handwriting of al-Ashiri al-Andalusi, who was a learned Imam.
