Khalad ibn Rafi' ibn Malik

Khalad ibn Rafi' ibn Malik ibn al-'Ajlan ibn 'Amr ibn 'Amir ibn Zariq ibn 'Amir ibn Zariq ibn 'Abd al-Haritha ibn Malik ibn Ghadib ibn Jishm ibn al-Khazraj al-Ansari al-Khazraji then al-Zarqi, and he is the brother of Rafi' ibn Rafi', witnessed Badr, and he is known as Abu Yahya. Rafi' ibn Yahya reported from Mu'adh ibn Rafi', from his father, said: I and my brother Khalad left with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Badr on a camel that was skittish, until when we were at the place of the post that the Ruha' left behind, it broke our camel, so I said: O Allah, for us, if we came to the city, we would slaughter it, and while we were like that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by us and said: 'What is the matter with you two?' So we informed him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended, performed wudu', then splashed water on his wudu', then ordered us to open the camel's mouth, so we opened it for him, and he poured some of the water from his wudu' into the camel's belly, then poured it on its head, then on its neck, then on its flank, then on its nose, then on its hump, then on its penis, then he said: 'O Allah, carry Rafi' and Khalad' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed, and we set out, and we caught up to the Prophet ﷺ at the head of the middle of the journey.

We were the first of the groups to arrive, and when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw us, he laughed, so we went until we arrived at Badr, until when we were close to the Wadi of Badr, it broke us, so we said: Praise be to Allah.

So we slaughtered it, and we gave its meat in charity.

It was narrated by the three (Ibn Manda, Abū Nuʿaym, Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr), and Ibn al-Kalbi mentioned it, and he said: Khalad was killed on the Day of Badr, and no one else said this, and it is similar to what we mentioned, and Abu 'Umar said: They say that he has a narration.

This indicates that he lived after the Prophet ﷺ.
