Abdullah ibn Rawaha

The wife of Abdullah bin Rawaha. Ismail bin Ayyash narrated, on the authority of Rabi'ah (2) bin Saleh Al-Madlaji, on the authority of Ikrimah, who said: Abdullah bin Rawaha was with his family, when one of his slave women passed through a corner of the house. He went to her and had intercourse with her, and his wife discovered them together. She went to fetch a knife, but by the time she returned he had finished and moved away. She said, "I saw what you were doing!" He said: So I said (3): the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to recite the Qur'an while in a state of major ritual impurity. She said: If you are honest, read. He said: Yes. He then recited (4): "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us reciting his Book, as radiant as the bright light of dawn. He brought guidance after blindness, and our hearts are certain that what he says will come to pass. He spends the night with his side apart from his bed, while the polytheists lie heavily in theirs (5)." According to another report, he recited different verses.

She said, "I believe in Allah and disbelieve my own eyes." Abdullah said: I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and mentioned that to him. He laughed until his molars became visible. Narrated by Abu Musa.
